Vanessa "Bertha" (Morgan) Smith

Vanessa M. "Bertha" Smith, 60, wife of the late Jerry Hudson Smith, died Saturday, September 5, 2020, at her residence, after an illness.

Mrs. Smith was born on September 8, 1959 in Cayce, daughter of the late Henry Davis and Louise Morgan. At a very young age she was adopted by her grandparents, Herbert and Dovie Morgan. She was a graduate of Leslie High School in Rock Hill and retired from the Women's Services of McLeod Regional Medical Center where she loved taking care of her "Mothers and Babies". Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of Life Baptist Church in St. Stephens where she enjoyed worshipping with her church family.  

Surviving are her sons, Jerry Mark (Tammy) Smith of Ooltewah, Tennessee and James David (Falicia) Smith of Oklahoma; daughters, Jamie Beth Lee of Barrineau and Karen Gail Smith of Lake City; grandchildren; Matthew Hardwick, Elizabeth Lee, Trey Lee, Taylor Register, Michael Smith, Tony Smith, Justin Smith, Sara Bella Smith, Noah Lee Smith, Timothy Jordan Smith, Cayden Mark Smith, Trinity Mae Smith and Andrew Smith; sister, Edith (Richard) Tinker of Rock Hill; brother, Wayne (Linda) Walker of Rock Hill; special friends, Debbie Byrd and Kelli Jernigan; and a special aunt, Jean Starnes.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her son, Dewey Phillip Smith.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial to follow at Floyd Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, September 7, 2020, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton.
