Ulyss Joe Mays

Ulyss Joe Mays, 85, husband of Dora Ann Gibbs Mays, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, peacefully at his home.

Ulyss was born on September 6, 1937, in Mt. Airy, NC, son of the late Joe Millie Mays and Myrtle Callaway Mays.  Ulyss was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where he showed his love for God and love for his family.  He dedicated his life to the Gideons for Bibles. Ulyss was a humble man and the rock of his family.  His hobbies included the love of Classic Cars, especially the 50’s model, with the knowledge he had about these cars he could name every model they made.  Before his years of retirement, he worked at General Motors over 30 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Susan (Rodney) Smith of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Julie Touron of Williamsburg, VA; son, Tim (Cindy) Mays of Pamplico; daughter-in-law, Debby Mays of Pamplico; grandchildren, Mike (Tammy) Fiebernitz of Myrtle Beach, Christy (Chad) Stanley of Nakina, NC, Ryan Mays of Myrtle Beach, Eric Mays of Pamplico, Connor (Shelly) Mays of Florence, Carson Mays of Pamplico, Alexandria Touron, Bayley Touron, Abbey Touron and Brett Touron all of Williamsburg, VA; great grandchildren, Chloe Stanley and Carlie Stanley of Nakina, NC.

Ulyss was preceded in death by his first wife, the mother of his children, Doris Ellen Mays; son, Kirk Daniel Mays; son-in-law, Charles Touron; sisters, Eva Atkins and Edith Amburn.

The family will receive friends, 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Monday , November 21, 2022 at Beulah Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Beulah Baptist Church, Pamplico.  Burial will follow at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens,  North Myrtle Beach, SC at 3:00 PM.
