Roger Wendell McElveen

Roger Wendell McElveen, 73, of Cades, husband of Nancy Pierce McElveen, died Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee, Florence.

Mr. McElveen was born on February 4, 1949, in Williamsburg County, son of the late L. Wendell McElveen and Anease Barrineau McElveen. He was a graduate of Hebron High School and Florence Darlington Technical College. Mr. McElveen was a member of Cades Baptist Church and retired from SCDOT. He umpired baseball for many years, enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting grass and working for the church. He loved his family, grandchildren and friends and will be dearly missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, Nancy Pierce McElveen, are their son, Jamie (Shonda) McElveen of Cades; grandchildren, Kaleigh McElveen and Nathan McElveen, both of Cades; sister, Julie (Charles) Newell of N. Myrtle Beach; brother, Charles McElveen of Cades; special cousin, Sharon Gaskins of Olanta; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. McElveen was preceded in death by his son, Jay McElveen and sister, Barbra Beerer.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Cades Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
