Roger Gause

Roger H. Gause, 76, husband of Gail Dennis Gause and former co-owner of Carolina Funeral Home, died Thursday, February 4, 2021, at MUSC Health in Florence. 

Mr. Gause was born on November 27, 1944 in Florence County, son of the late Joseph "Joe" Richburg Gause and Viola Marie “Ola” McKnight Gause. He was the true example of servant leadership throughout his life, beginning with the South Carolina National Guard.  He served his Lord and Savior in a variety of roles at Calvary Baptist Church. Roger retired from Martek Biosciences (2009) after 46 years as a partner (FermPro Mfg.) and HR Director.  He also served this community, establishing Carolina Funeral Home until his retirement in 2018. 

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Gail Dennis Gause of Lake City; son, Shay (Kristi) Gause of San Antonio, TX; granddaughters, Kate and Erin Gause, both of San Antonio; sister, Sybil (Dan) Brosnan of Myrtle Beach; sisters-in-law, Maria Gause of Johnsonville and Judy Gause of Coward; brother-in-law, Bobby Huggins of Coward; and a number of nieces and nephews. Also known as Uncle Roger and “Rogey” to many friends and neighbors, his love for others extended well beyond his family. 

Mr. Gause was preceded in death by his siblings, Keith Gause, June G. Hampton, Pat G. Huggins and Lyn Gause; and brother-in-law, Will Hampton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Virginia Ferguson, Lake City Hospital, Dr. Ramzy Al Hourany & MICU staff at MUSC Florence, for their excellent care and compassion for him and his family; and to our special nurses: Tori, Ally, Candace and Becky, who were with him when we couldn't be.
