Roberta Maxine (Byrd) Horne

Maxine Horne, wife of the late Neil Horne, died Monday, September 7, 2020, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Mrs. Horne was born in Coward, daughter of the late Capers Byrd and Louise McKnight Byrd. She attended Coward schools and was a member of Lynches River Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Horne was a previous resident of Pensacola, FL for 43 years, then spent the last 22 years in her original home town.

Surviving are her children, Herschel Horne of Ohatchee, AL, Jana H. (Frank) Shaul of Hanover, MD and Derrell (Sherry) Horne of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brother, Elijah (Nell) Byrd of Coward; sisters, Elaine Byrd (Marion) Eaddy of Effingham and Virginia Byrd Evans of Pamplico; a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Jimmy and Clyde Springs and Geri Gail Lee.

Mrs. Horne was preceded in death by sister, Trella Mae Matthews and a niece, Mamie L. Coward.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, September 11, 2020, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial to follow at Hicks Cemetery, Coward.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
