Pressley Pate

Mr. Marvin Pressley Pate, 76, of Scranton, husband of Sandra Murray Pate, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Pate was born on August 6, 1947, in Florence, SC, son of the late Marvin Bethune Pate and Gertrude Wall Pate. He was a Veteran of the United States Marines Corp and served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Pate was a member of Ariel Baptist Church. He was a square dancer for 33 years, and was a former member of Indiantown Swingers, Prom-O-Nabers Square Dance Club in Florence and Gamecock Strutters of Sumter.   

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, D. Sandra M. Pate of Scranton; sons, Robert F.G. (Alisa F.) Pate of Scranton and Marvin Alan (Lisa Jo F.) Pate of Scranton; granddaughters, M. Hayley P. (Stanton) Gause, Ella P. (Ryan) Bair, Emma E. Pate, Kiley R. Pate, and Greta G. Pate; grandson, Bratten P. Pate; great granddaughter, Olivia Rose Gause; sister, Mildred P. (Leon) Yarborough of Scranton.

Mr. Pate was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Pate and Gertrude Wall Pate; maternal grandparents, D. P. Wall and Jessie H. Wall; paternal grandparents, Charles H. Pate, MD and Martha Inez Penelope “Nellie” Singletary Pate

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Monday, November 20, 2023, at Ariel Baptist Church, Coward. Burial, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, to follow at Singletary Cemetery, Coward, SC with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Monday, November 20, 2023, at Ariel Baptist Church.
