Mary "Mae" (Ross) Wilkes

Mary Ruth “Mae” Wilkes, 66, wife of David Ray Wilkes, Sr., moved to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 6, 2022, surrounded by her family and friends at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Mrs. Wilkes was born on May 7, 1956, in Florence County, daughter of the late William Ross and Willodean Barrineau Ross. She was a graduate of East Clarendon High School, and retired from Lake City Community Hospital, where she was a nurse’s aide.

Mrs. Wilkes loved spending time with her family and friends, but most certainly time with her only grandson, Nathan. She faithfully attended Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Wilkes was a caregiver by trade and took pride in taking care of others and doing everything she could for others.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, David Ray Wilkes, Sr; son, David Ray (Julie) Wilkes, Jr.; grandson, Nathan David Wilkes; siblings, Jacqueline Ross Cusaac, Ann Ross (Charlie) Matthews, Larry Ross and Donald (Ann) Ross.

Mrs. Wilkes was preceded in death by a son, William Travis Wilkes; siblings, George D. “Buck” Ross and Lizzie Dell Ross Berera.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy, with burial to follow at Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Turbeville.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Carolina Funeral Home.
