Marion Charles Lowder, 68, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022 at McLeod Hospice House after a battle with cancer.
Marion was born on February 28, 1954, in Florence County, son of the late Arnold Charles Lowder and Jacqueline McAllister Lowder. He was a lifelong native of the Camp Branch neighborhood in Scranton. Marion graduated from Lake City High School class of 1972 and then received an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Florence Darlington Technical College.
He retired as the City Administrator for the City of Lake City after 32 years of service to his community. He was a member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church. Marion served on the board for the Lake City Airport Commission, was currently serving on the Florence County Developing Communities Commission and was a former State Constable amongst many other groups over the years. Marion was a jack of all trades and was a great friend to all. He was an avid hunter, golfer, and fisherman. Of all of his jobs and hobbies, being a beloved grandfather, “Big D”, was his all time favorite.
Surviving are his daughter, Dr. Marian DeAnna “DeDe” Lowder and her mother, Carlene Lowder both of Lake City; grandchildren, Harper Drew, Carlie and Brinkley; brother, Wyman (Karon) Lowder and sister, Teressa Lowder both of Scranton; niece, Megan (Ward) Powell and great nephew, Heston Powell.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carroll Drew Lowder.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Grace Free Will Baptist Church, Lake City with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2022 at Carolina Funeral Home.
