Juanita Smith Obituary

Mrs. Juanita Hardwick Smith, 90, wife of the late Charles Edward Smith, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Juanita was born in Horry County on September 8, 1933, to the late Harmon T. and Cleo Carter Hardwick. Juanita was one of seven children and grew up working the farm with her family until they bought and ran a cafeteria style restaurant in North Myrtle Beach. Juanita married the love of her life, Ed Smith, in 1954 and relocated to North Charleston where they would welcome and raise their two daughters, Anita and Sandra.  She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and served as the secretary there until her retirement in 1997. Juanita moved to Lake City in 2000 after losing her beloved husband. There, she spent the next 24 years continuing to do what she always did best: spending time loving her family, making amazing cakes and baked goods of all kinds, showering all who had the pleasure of knowing her with love and kindness, providing nourishment to the bodies, hearts, and souls of those that were lucky enough to call her “Mother”, and serving as the solid rock of her family’s foundation. She loved and was loved so greatly in her life and is missed beyond measure. All who knew her would agree she was a true angel on this Earth.

She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Charles Edward Smith; brothers, Walden, Earl, and Jimmy Hardwick; sister. Louise Hardwick Morgan; son-in-law, William Russell Coker.

She is survived by her daughters; Anita (Billy) Youmans and Sandra Smith Coker; grandchildren, Marsha (Travis) Altman, Edward (Christen) Coker, Amanda (Dominick) Errico, and Sarah (Shawn) Ensminger; great grandchildren, Riley Coker, Luke Altman, Braxton Altman, Destiny Coker, Faith Coker, and Santino Errico; sisters, Deanna McKnight and Carolyn Scabery; sister-in-law, Diane Hardwick; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to Thank Amedisys Hospice for all their care and support.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
