Mr. Joseph Wayne “Joey” Barefoot, 52, of Scranton, husband of Michelle Haselden Barefoot, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at MUSC Medical Center, Charleston.
Mr. Barefoot was born on May 16, 1973, in Florence, son of Lula “Lukie” Ard Barefoot and the late David Wesley Barefoot. Mr. Barefoot attended Unity Free Will Baptist Church and was a faithful presence in his community. He worked at the thrift shop for Disabilities and Special Needs, where he found joy in helping others and being part of something meaningful. He truly loved the people he worked alongside, forming special bonds at the Canupp Center and with the Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Board.
Mr. Barefoot was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed cheering them on every chance he got. More than anything, he had a kind and loving spirit—he loved everyone he met, and that love was felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Surviving are his wife, Michelle H. Barefoot of Scranton; mother, Lukie A. Barefoot; brothers, Thomas Robinson and Morgan Barefoot (Mary Smith); dear friends, KP Patten and Jamie Mohler-Patten; special nephews, Jacob McQuistion, Justin McQuistion and Camden Patten; many extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 4:00 PM in the chapel.
