Mr. Joseph “Joe” Skvarek, 79, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at McLeod Hospice House.
Mr. Skvarek was born on May 27, 1946, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late John Skvarek and Victoria Ard Skvarek. He made his living as a house mover with Joe Powell’s Housing Moving, a job that reflected his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Mr. Skvarek proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and Army during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. He continued his military service with the South Carolina National Guard, retiring after 27 years of dedicated service. Joe took great pride in having served his country.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and found his greatest joy in the simple things—fishing, spending time in nature, and making memories with his family. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, who were his constant companions. Above all, he will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication, and the quiet, steady way he cared for those around him.
Surviving are his children, Victoria Skvarek Fernandez, Anna Marie Herrere, Jesus Skvarek, James (Melanie) Skvarek, Joseph (Nikki) Skvarek, Misa Skvarek (James McClary), Annie Evelyn “Eve” Coker, Heather Marie Coker and James Ira “Jimmy” Coker; 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
In addition to his wife, Mamie Frances Powell Skvarek, he was preceded in death by an infant child; his sister, Sophia Lambert and his brother, Albert Skvarek.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel.
Burial will follow at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
