J. C. "Coolidge" Filyaw, 93, husband of the late Lillie Belle Driggers Filyaw, died Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Lake City Community Hospital.
Mr. Filyaw was born on August 26, 1927 in Williamsburg County, son of the late Charles Wesley Filyaw and Singie Floyd Filyaw. He was a retired farmer and a lifelong member of Floyd Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served on the deacon board, was a member of the Men's Fellowship and church musician. He was a lead guitarist in several traveling gospel groups for many years. Mr. Filyaw was an avid fisherman and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are his children, Charles (Debbie) Filyaw of Cades, Carlisle (Susan) Filyaw of Barnwell, Sheldon (Anne) Filyaw and Douglas (Marie) Filyaw, both of Cades and Lynn (Todd) Floyd of Kingstree; grandchildren, Jami (Tripp) Carter, Kaycee (Brent) Bennett, Amanda (Brandon) Floyd, Kyle (Ashley) Floyd, Erin (Josh) Pierce, Adrianna (Collin) Lee and Katie Filyaw and her fiancé Byron Coker; great grandchildren, Kayden Carter, Grooms Bennett, Lily Jane Bennett, Lillie Cooper Bennett, Charlie Floyd, Marley James Bennett, Colby Floyd and Lewison Lee.
Mr. Filyaw was preceded in death by 2 young sisters.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lamb, Dr. DeCamps, Dr. Griggs, Dr. Graham III, Nurse Practitioner Shawn Lockamy and the ER and 2nd Floor Nursing staff of the Lake City Hospital.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Floyd Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Lake City.
Friends who wish to view and pay their respect may do so Wednesday, after 3:00 PM and Thursday, until noon, at Carolina Funeral Home.
