Mr. Howard Thomas Driggers, 85, of Scranton, husband of Judy C. Driggers, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, with care from Amedysis Hospice.
Mr. Howard Thomas Driggers was born on July 3, 1940, in Lake City, South Carolina, the son of the late Hagood S. Driggers and Nellie McAllister Driggers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, H. S. "Shorty" Driggers, Jr., David Driggers, and Donnie Driggers; and his first wife, Jeanette Clark Driggers; and his faithful companion, J.B.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy C. Driggers, whose love, devotion, and caregiving were the foundation of his later years. He leaves behind a family who were central to his life: his daughter, Natalie Matthews (Randy), and grandsons Campbell Douglas (Lindsey) and Will Douglas (Camryn); his son, Howard T. Driggers, Jr. (Christine), and granddaughters, Raegan and Parker Driggers; his stepson, Lee Allred (Stacey), and granddaughters, Sydney and MacKenzie Allred; his sister, Bebee Daniel; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with the people he loved.
Howard was a man of deep and abiding faith. A devoted member of Lake City First Baptist Church, he served three terms on the Board of Deacons and gave more than two decades of service as Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee from 2005 to 2022. He was also actively involved in the Audio and Visual Committee, the Disaster Relief Team, the Wheelchair Ramp and Lift Builders Team, the Men's Association, and the Jeffords Sunday School Class, showing up wherever there was work to be done and a neighbor to be served.
His commitment to community extended beyond the church. He served on the Board of Directors of The Carolina Academy from 1981 to 1988, and he gave faithful service to his country as a veteran of the National Guard and the United States Army Reserve.
Howard took great pride in his lifelong devotion to the Masonic fraternity. He joined Lebanon Lodge #48 in Scranton, South Carolina, in 1962 and was honored to serve as Past Master in 1966. He became a member of the Omar Shriners in 1969 and held lifetime membership in the Scottish Rite from that same year. These associations he carried with dignity throughout his life.
His professional career spanned more than 33 years with the Glidden Paint Company, where he was respected for his integrity, his work ethic, and his genuine investment in the people around him. His personal and professional mentorships provided guidance and left a lasting impression with his colleagues and friends.
Howard Thomas Driggers lived a life shaped by faith, hard work, and curiosity. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His life was richly and gratefully lived, without complaint, and he will be remembered always. Not only for what he built and served, but for the service and love he gave.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Lake City Memorial Park, and the family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund or the Jeffords Sunday School Class Fund at Lake City First Baptist Church.
