Esther (Cruey) Gillespie

Esther Cruey Gillespie, 89, died Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at her residence, after an illness.

Mrs. Gillespie was born on March 29, 1931 in Broadford, VA, daughter of the late Charles Patterson Cruey and Cordelia Pauley Cruey.  She attended Abundant Life in Florence.  Mrs. Gillespie was very active and enjoyed gardening, fishing, the outdoors and was an avid reader.

Surviving are her daughters, Cordelia Gillespie (Ayman) Mheich of Johnsonville and Lillian Marie (Stan) McNutt of Canyon, TX; grandchildren, Rebecca Cook of Troy, MT, Jo Ann (Lucas) Bering, Elizabeth Gillespie, Susan Gillespie, Anthony Gillespie, Sandra (Clint) Russell, William Stedman and Nathaniel (Jordan) McNutt; great grandchildren, William Cook, Callie Cook, Aaris Storey, Kiyah Storey, Antonio Gillespie, Dynasti Gillespie, Elijah Gillespie, Kellie Russell, Stacey Russell, Bobby Russell, Mia McNutt, Hannah McNutt, JoAnna McNutt and Jude McNutt; son-of-her-heart, Alfonso Oliver of Whippie, OH; brothers, Wayne Cruey of Milledgeville, GA, Curtis Cruey of Tazewell, VA, Warnie Cruey of Bland, VA, Wade Cruey and James Cruey, both of Tazewell, VA.

Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by sons, Charles Anthony Gillespie and Thomas Preston Gillespie; and grandchildren, Zechariah McNutt, Michelle McArtor and William McArtor; brothers, Denton Cruey, Edward Cruey and Carson Cruey; and sisters, Modena Crabtree, Mercedes Horn and Linda Hayes.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
