Elwood Linwood Matthews

Elwood Linwood Matthews, 94, husband of the late Dorothy Sauls Matthews, died Monday, September 5, 2022 at his residence at Pee Dee Gardens, Florence.

Mr. Matthews was born on January 18, 1928, in Florence County, son of the late Linwood Matthews and Annie Fryar Matthews. Mr. Matthews worked with Santee Cooper for many years, retiring in 1990. He also owned and operated Matthews Shell in St. George, SC. He was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge #61 of St. George for over 70 years. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in St. George and attended Family Worship Assembly, Coward.

Surviving are his children, Ella Mae (Allen) Brownlee of St. George, Debbie (Wendell) Malphrus of Prosperity, Pam (Bobby) Hill of Timmonsville and Kent (Tammie) Matthews of Manning; many grandchildren and great grands and great great grands; brother, Jimmy Matthews of Goose Creek.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a sister, Uldean Denham.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Friday, September 9, 2022, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Masonic Rites to follow at Matthews Cemetery, Coward.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
