Danny Lanier Britt

Daniel Lanier Britt, Sr., 74 of Elizabeth City, NC passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Waterbrooke Assisted Living in Elizabeth City. He was born in Lake, SC on August 3, 1947, to the late Alfred Clyde Britt, Sr., and Mary Edith Daniels Britt and was the husband of Glenda Raper Britt of the home.

Some might remember Mr. Britt as the manager of the old Sonic Drive in the early 1980s in Elizabeth City before he became the owner and operator of The Barbecue Barn in Elizabeth City for twenty years. He worked until his health rapidly declined and he was no longer able to work. Danny was a hard worker who loved the restaurant business and worked six days a week for many years. He met many friends over the years and always had a smile, good food, and a kind word which kept his customers coming back year after year. Danny was an excellent cook and a good person. He always said the restaurant business was a seven day a week job, even when you were closed you were still working or thinking restaurant. So, to be in the restaurant business you had to love it, which Danny did.

Besides his wife, Glenda, he is survived by his sons, Daniel L. Britt, Jr., and wife Janet and Kelly S. Britt and wife Jenifer all of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Rhonda Wood and husband Jesse of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandsons, Jacob Britt of Virginia Beach, VA, and Derek Wood of Elizabeth City, NC; a granddaughter, Amber Britt West and husband Tyler of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Mary Pearl Britt Lee and Sandra Britt Dennis both of SC; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gerald, Alfred (Bodie), Billy, and Tommy Britt; and one sister, Jean.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. John Luton officiating.
