Mr. Sidney Adolph Godwin, 98, husband of the late Pauline Barfield Godwin, passed away May 8, 2019 at his home, after an illness.
Mr. Godwin was born in Florence County, a son of the late Zola G. and Minnie Belle Fountain Godwin. He was a retired grocery clerk and a veteran of the US Army, Company E, 390th Infantry of the 98th Division. He attended Cornerstone and was a member of the DAV and VFW.
Survivors include one son, Edwin Lee (Traci) Godwin of Florence; two step-sons, Ralston (Linda) Barfield of Scranton and Mendel (Alice) Barfield of Scranton; two brothers, Zola Brook (Milvee) Godwin and Percy (Betty Jean) Godwin, both of Lake City; two sisters, Duna Humphries of Florence and Darnelle G. Barone of Columbia, MD, one grandson, Zackery Godwin and one adopted grandson, Nathaniel Godwin; sister-in-law, Joanna Godwin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by a son, Sidney Alan Godwin; brothers, Marion Bert Godwin and Herman Godwin; and sister, Joan Yopp.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 10, 2019, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with private burial at Godwin Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 8, 2019, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton.
