Reedy Floyd Obituary

Reedy Floyd, age 67, husband of Sheila Cusack Floyd, and son of Horace and Libby Floyd, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019.  He was born and reared in the Barrineau Community in Clarendon County, South Carolina.  He attended East Clarendon school and received technical training in welding and construction.  For the first portion of his life, he farmed with his family. Later, he and his brother began working in construction and he continued that profession becoming a very skilled, licensed residential builder.

He was gifted in many aspects, able to figure out things well and pick up on how different things operated – from tools, equipment, and machinery, to games, puzzles, many sporting activities and lastly to golf.  He would practice persistently until he felt he had learned what he wanted.  After severe arthritis stopped him from full-time work, he developed an interest in mowing lawns, flowers and other yard work.  He loved truck and tractor pulls, quail hunting, movies, old westerns, history programs, science fiction, talking, laughing and arguing.  Though his health had greatly declined in the past year, he was still able to find a spot at Kenny’s store and then onto Ira’s shed, where he could talk, laugh, argue and play checkers.

He was blessed with many good friends over the years, and was grateful for the time and talks they shared with him – especially as his health declined.  To name a few, they include his brother to begin with …who he dearly loved, Kevin Cusack, Marion Welch, Ronald Floyd, Michael Faircloth, Doug McKenzie, Myers Graham, Herman Bryant, Jerry McElveen, Charles Cole, Barry McCutcheon, Kent Coker, Kenny McKenzie and Ira Barrineau.  He also had a special long-term relationship with Rev. Otis Braswell and his wife.  The Braswells invested a great deal of time, Bible study, love and friendship with Reedy, and the measure of their impact on him was invaluable.

He was preceded by his parents; his brother, Walt and sister-in-law Lisha; daughter Christy; father-in-law Jimmy Cusack I; and brothers-in-law, Kevin and Jimmy Cusack II; and many pets that he cared for over the years – most special being his loyal companion, Jack and most recent, Sallie.

He is survived by his wife; his sisters Myra Tyler (Jerry) and Glenda Williamson; his children, Cy and Mandi; a granddaughter, Adah; mother-in-law Dean Pattillo and step father-in-law George; grandmother-in-law Lillie Miles; sisters in law Joni Rogers (Bobby) and Toni Cusack(Richard); aunts, cousins; other friends; good neighbors; and two pets, Duck and Gracie.
