Mattie Naomi Matthews

Born October 18, 1944 in Scranton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Sam Jack Matthews and Gene Day Matthews.

Mattie attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC and had a stellar career for over 30 years as Manager of the Charlotte Group Claim office of Prudential Insurance Company. She loved crossword puzzles, boating, and being outside. She was a great cook. She loved her family and friends. She loved all animals, especially cats. Mattie will be greatly missed and loved by all that knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Elaine Richardson and husband, Joe, Jean Mathews, Teresa Miles; nephews, Graham Matthews and wife, Robin, Sammy Matthews and wife, Kay, Timmy Mathews and his wife Heather; special friend, Lynne Reyburn; and aunt Sue Day.

A celebration of Mattie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 29, 2019 in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home with Chaplain Susan Roddey officiating. A private burial will be held in her family plot at New Zion Baptist Church in Lake City, SC.
