Joseph Henry "Jake" Garris, 89, husband of the late Nettie Mae Gaskins Garris, died Sunday, October 27, 2019, at MUSC in Florence.
Mr. Garris was born on September 13, 1930 in Florence County to the late Thomas Calvin Garris and Laura Viola Lamb Garris. Jake was a lifelong dedicated member of the Scranton First Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served in many capacities including Deacon. Mr. Garris was a Veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War, and retired as a Millwright worker. He was known for his compassion for others and his willingness to help those in need. Jake will be remembered for his caring spirit and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Surviving are his children, Janet Evans, Theresa (Roland) Howard and Glenn (Debra) Garris, all of Scranton; along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved him dearly.
Mr. Garris was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Leroy "Roy" Garris and daughter-in-law, Linda Garris; son-in-law, Jimmy Evans; grand-daughter, Marcie Evans; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Scranton First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial to follow at Scranton United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Scranton First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
