John Benson Rodgers, 86, husband of Lucille Alexander Rodgers, died peacefully, Friday, January 5, 2018, at his home after an illness.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial to follow Lake City Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the funeral home.
Mr. Rodgers was born on April 26, 1931 in Lake City, son of the late Clifton Eulon Rodgers and Ida May Rodgers. He was a graduate of Indiantown High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. Mr. Rodgers was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, a retired farmer and a member of Paran Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was an avid outdoorsman and renowned for raising prize winning beagles.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille A. Rodgers of Lake City; sons, John Benson "Johnny" Rodgers, Jr., Clifton Rodgers and David (Kaye) Rodgers, all of Lake City; daughter, Susan Rodgers (Barry) White of Pamplico; grandchildren, Denise Rodgers, James McCoy, Caroline McCoy, Erin (Danny) Elmore, Mary (Adam) McClam, Karly Rodgers, Phillip Rodgers, Kellie (Brian) Douglas and John Barrett White; great-grandchildren, Deacon, Ava, Sawyer, Autumn, Reese and Lucille; sisters, Katie Kirby of Florence, Zell Gaskin of Lake City and Alice Casselman of Lugoff.
Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Valerie Rodgers; brothers, C. E. Rodgers and Linwood Rogers; and a sister, Elizabeth Altman.
