James Edgar DuRant, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, September 29, 2018, at Commander Nursing Home after a long illness. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, who was an avid fisherman up until his health prevented him from enjoy his most joyful pastime.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018 in Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Church, North Half Moon Road, Lake City, SC officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ackerman and Rev. Chad Jones. Burial will be in Brown's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Browntown, Highway 341, Lake City, SC directed by Carolina Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at church on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon,until the time of service.
Mr. DuRant was born December 25, 1934, to the late Edgar Laverne DuRant and Evelyn (Huggins) DuRant of Browntown near Lake City. James had served with the South Carolina National Guard; he was a member of Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Church, and had retired from Wellman Inc. in Johnsonville.
Survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Betty Carolyn (Ammons) DuRant, son, Joey (Ann) DuRant, daughter, Midge (Dwayne) Lyerly, grandchildren, Joanna & Holly DuRant, Elizabeth (Dustin) Eaddy, James Lyerly, two Great-grandchildren, Camden Crocker and Noah Eaddy. He is also survived by a brother, Danny Laverne (Dottie) DuRant, sister, Vonnie DuRant and many nieces, and nephews.
Mr. DuRant was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Glenn Alfred DuRant and Kenneth Wayne DuRant and sister, Betty Jean Harrelson DuRant Atkinson.
