Harry A Parkhurst, Sr.

1935 ~ 2019 (age 83)

Harry A. Parkhurst, Sr. 83, husband of Shelby Poston Parkhurst, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Mr. Parkhurst was born on July 6, 1935 in Florence County, son of the late Charles Marion Parkhurst and Ludell Miles Parkhurst.  He was a graduate of Lake City High School and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Parkhurst was founder of Parkhurst Auto Sales, a Veteran of the South Carolina National Guard, attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the men's ministries.  He was a Life Member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge # 193 and was a Shriner.  Mr. Parkhurst was an avid NASCAR driver and was an avid skater, which is where he met the love of his life.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Shelby P. Parkhurst of Lake City; children, Al (Catrina) Parkhurst of Lake City, Sheila (Temus Miles) Godwin of Scranton and Gregg (Melissa) Parkhurst of Lake City; sister, Peggy (Brian) Hudson of Effingham; grandchildren, Wes Parkhurst, Blake (Brittany) Parkhurst, Haley (Nathan) Hendricks, Bryce Parkhurst, Allison Godwin, Parker Godwin, Peyton Parkhurst and Preston Parkhurst; great grandchildren, Raylen Parkhurst, Morgan Parkhurst and Madelyn Matthews; very special friends, Johnny Thompson of Greenville and Eddie Browder of Lake City.

Mr. Parkhurst was preceded in death by his stepfather, Eustace McAlister; and siblings, Cleo Miles, Joe Parkhurst, Dean Stewart and Irene Arnold.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Friday, February 8, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church, Lake City.  Burial, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, will follow at Lake City Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Friday, February 8, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church and other times at the home, 515 Alvin Godwin Ave., Lake City, SC 29560.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake City Masonic Lodge #193, c/o George Richardson, 563 Cooktown Road, Lake City, SC 29560.
