Capt. Conrad Frank Singletary, US Army Retired, 95 of Cayce, SC, died July 29, 2018, at Lexington Medical Center.
He was born on March 27, 1923, in Florence, South Carolina, the son of the late Cleo Timmons Singletary and Loy Hopper Singletary. He attended Clemson Agriculture and Engineering College before joining the Army in 1943 where he was a Finance and Accounting Officer during WW II. He received the Bronze Star, Good Conduct, American Campaign, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, WW II Victory and Army of Occupation Medals as well as two Bronze Service Stars. He was commissioned and retired with the rank as Captain. After his retirement, he attended the University of Omaha, Nebraska and earned a degree in Business. He was an avid player of checkers and enjoyed tinkering with VW's and making wine from home grown grapes. He is known by many in his community, as "Mr. Paul".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Loy Singletary and a brother, Oliver Donald Singletary.
He is survived by his children, Jill Singletary Guscio (Frank) of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Tim Singletary, of Cayce, South Carolina, Walter Lee Powers of Phoenix, Arizona, his grandchildren, Kelly Elizabeth Byrd Wood of Spring Hill, Florida, Neil Franklin Byrd of Gainesville, Georgia, Cory Joseph Guscio, of Clawson, Michigan, Skylar Powers, Nicole (Frank) Powers Ramirez both of Phoenix, Arizona, his great-grandchildren, Ethan and Austin Wood of St. Petersburg, Florida, Grant and Kaden Ramirez of Phoenix, Arizona, his sisters, Gertrude Elizabeth “Libby” Singletary Stevenson and Betty Jo Singletary Barbre, both of Charlotte , North Carolina, niece, Loy, nephews, David, Clifford, Philip, Claude, Don, Bruce, great nieces and nephews, Kathy Grizzard, his true best friend and Greta, his loving pet goat.
A private burial will held at the Singletary Cemetery in Coward, South Carolina.
