Mrs. Miles was born in Charleston, SC, on May 30, 1920, only daughter of the late Sebastian B. Bergstrom and Eileen Jones Bergstrom.

She was a member of Stone Chapel PH Church and a nursery teacher for thirty-eight years. She was an independent woman long before it was ever fashionable, and she somehow had the talent to single-handedly keep her sprawling family tight-knit even after they spread across the state and country. She was generous, genuine, direct and honest, and she found tremendous joy being surrounded by family. Her home reverberated with laughter and was so full of love it was practically tangible. She leaves a legacy of love of which anyone would be proud, and she exemplified it in every aspect of her life. Her family will fondly remember her counters covered in flour as she baked her Christmas tarts and other baked goods for family and friends, her absolutely contagious laughter, her smile that could light up any room, and her excitement when it was time for fireworks on New Year’s Eve. She has absolutely lived her best life, and she will be missed every day.

Surviving are her children, Eileen (Carol) Filyaw of Coward, Miriam (Buster) Wise, Margaret (Gene) McAllister, and Temus (Sheila Godwin) Miles all of Scranton, Linda Stone of Pamplico, and Janice (Larry) Courtney of Fort Mill; step-children, William (Bill) Miles of West Columbia and Nancy Hooker of Fort Lawn; daughter-in law, Lois Miles of Scranton; fourteen grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, twenty-two step-great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and another due in March, and twenty-two step-great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Miles was preceded in death by her brothers, Clifford Bergstrom and Wilburn Bergstrom, two step-daughters, Ruby Lee Cameron and Molly Matthews, and two step-granddaughters, Robin Berryhill and Barbara Lee.

Memorials may be made to Stone Chapel PH Church, 1996 W. Hwy. 378-Hannah, Pamplico, SC 29583.

The family would especially like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care and their staff for their care.
