Dorothy S. "Dot" McClam, 95, a retired registered nurse, passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday, June 6, 2018.
Graveside services, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton, will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Lake City Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Shane Patrick.
Mrs. McClam was born in DeKalb County, Georgia, and grew up in Florence, SC. She was the daughter of the late Ben and Kate Stokes. She was a member of Lake City First Baptist Church and a registered nurse (RN). Mrs. McClam started her career in 1951 and retired in 2009, serving 58 years in the profession. She earned her RN degree from The Orangeburg Nursing School in 1950. Mrs. McClam worked with Dr. J. D. Whitehead (Whitehead Clinic) for more than 30 years and finished her career at the Lake City Scranton Health Care Facility as a senior RN in 2009. She was also part of the initial staff at the Lower Florence County Hospital when it began operations in the 1960's. Mrs. McClam thoroughly enjoyed working with her patients over those many years.
Mrs. McClam was married to the late Tommy J. McClam. Together they had two children, Colonel Tommy (Cathy) McClam, USAF retired and David (Gerhue) McClam. She had three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She had one special niece, Sally (Colonel Terry Cronin) Cronin living in Colorado Springs, CO.
Mrs. McClam was preceded in death by her four sisters, Lottie Stokes, Sally Dewitt, Madeline Dukes and Murriel Stokes; and one brother, James "Jim" Stokes.
