Charlie Maxie Powell, Sr., 77, husband of Sophia Tisdale Powell, died Thursday, August 1, 2019, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence.
Mr. Powell was born on October 4, 1941 in Florence County, son of the late Alec Jones Powell and Hannah Poston Powell. He was a graduate of Hannah High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. Charlie was the owner of Lockwood Construction and superintendent at Cherokee Construction. He was a Mason and member of the Robert Burns Lodge of Coward and a Shriner. Charlie was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are his wife, Sophia Tisdale Powell of Lake City; son, Charlie M. (Myra) Powell, Jr. of Hartsville; daughter, Karla (Johnny) Vause of Timmonsville; grandchildren, Alec Powell, Meagan Powell, Jenni Grainger and Morgan Grainger; siblings, Mike (Donna) Powell of Bonneau, Margie (Alton) Johnson of Georgetown and Tony Powell of Scranton.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Flowers Powell; and a sister, Sybil Powell.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
