Billy Ray Matthews, 76, died Monday, July 30, 2018, at his daughter's residence, after an illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Cornerstone Ministries, Lake City. Burial, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Cornerstone Ministries, Lake City.
Mr. Matthews was born on October 18, 1941 in Florence County, son of the late Rosella Matthews Nettles. He retired from Bridges Construction as a foreman and was the first to bore fiber optic cable in SC. He attended Cornerstone Ministries and was a well- known bird hunter, bass fisherman and horseman. Mr. Matthews had many friends and loved one's who will miss him and cherish the memories.
Surviving are his daughters, Tami (James) Culick of Lake City, Sheri (Jimmy) Boltin of Neeses and Dee Dee (Steve) Culick of Cades; sisters, Eula Mae Bryant of Scranton, Betty Jo (Sonny) Fowler of Timmonsville, and Patricia Ann Thompson of Wallace; brothers, Thomas (Linda) Robinson of Florence, Keith (Ruth) Robinson of Lamar and Wilbur (Jane) Robinson of Timmonsville; grandsons, Jared (Oliva) Culick of Lake City, Jordan David (April) Miles of Orangeburg and Jameson David (Kayla) Miles of Lexington; granddaughters, Rebecca Lynn (Rick) Coker of Lake City and Shelby Brienne (J. W.) Barker of Coward; and nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his brothers, Deryl W. Nettles, Levon Robinson, Donnie Robinson and James Robinson; sister, Leslie Hill; granddaughter, Angela Joyce Miles; and grandson, Adam Culick.
