William Henry "Billy" Weaver

January 21, 1940 ~ May 2, 2021 (age 81)


Myrtle Beach: William Henry "Billy" Weaver, 81, passed away with family by his side on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at his residence in Myrtle Beach, S. C. After battling heart disease and cancer for years, the Lord took him home.

Billy was born on January 21, 1940 in Florence County, son of the late Wallace L. Weaver and Audrey Poston Weaver.  He received a scholarship and graduated from Clemson University January 25, 1964 with a B.S. in Agriculture and was an offensive guard and defensive linebacker for the Tigers. He was recognized in 1963 for outstanding football achievement in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Coach Frank Howard called #69 Billy "Headhunter" Weaver because he was one of the most steady, dependable players in the A.C.C. He was also a member of the Block C Club and was an officer in the ROTC program at Clemson. Billy was a textile executive with J. P. Stevens, Dan River Mills, Betrand and Monterey Mills. He also owned his own contract sewing business in Pamplico, S. C. Billy loved the outdoors and was an avid boater, hunter and fisherman. He was a "thinker", inventor and was truly "one of a kind". His family meant the world to him and he will be sorely missed.

Billy is survived by his three children, Resa (Eric) Engelke of Surfside Beach, S.C., Lesa (Glenn) Hellofs and Will (Nicole) Weaver, both of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Salena (Francisco) Martin and Carson Engelke, both of Surfside, S.C., Alaina and Erin Hellofs, and Maggie and Parker Weaver, all of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Mona Weaver Poston of Pamplico; brother, James (Genevieve) Weaver of Johnsonville

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Judy McComb Weaver and Waynell Jones Weaver.  Billy was also predeceased by brothers, Legrand W. Weaver and Howard Weaver and three sisters, Wardie Jewel Weaver Stone, Jacqueline Weaver Mitcheom and Yvonne Weaver.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, Scranton, S.C.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton, S.C.
