JOHNSONVILLE: Mr. Willie Carthen “Cob” Powell, 72, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Powell was born June 19, 1939, in Florence County, a son of the late Marion McLoud Powell and Shady Mae Springs Powell. He retired from John RC Fennell Construction Company as a carpenter.
Surviving are his son, Carroll “Gator” Powell and his wife, Lynn of Johnsonville; his first wife, Ann Powell of Johnsonville; his companion and special friend, Beulah Mae Stone of Johnsonville; step-sons, Randall Paul Miles and his wife, Carlotta of Johnsonville and Dan Stone and his wife, Tammy of Salem; step-daughter, Annette Martinez and her husband, Chencho of Gresham; brother, Milton “Squash” Powell and his wife, Joyce of Johnsonville; sister, Christine Howell of Johnsonville; step-sisters, Anita Williamson and her husband, Gary of Whiteville, NC and Libby Paso of Johnsonville; 15 grandchildren, Gaitland Carthen Powell, Creasie Parrott, Rugter Powell, Devin Powell, Austin Miles, Haley Miles, Joseph Miles, Dillon Miles, Johnathan Moreno, Justin Martinez, Jacob Martinez, Brittany Stone, Heather Stone, Nicole Byrd and Sarah Yow; 2 great grandchildren, Logan Byrd and Amiah Moreno; and daughter-in-law, Darlene Jones Powell of Johnsonville.
Mr. Powell was predeceased by a son, Joseph Kip Powell; a stepson, Billy “Cordia” Stone; two sisters, Beulah Maude Powell and Audrey Mae Evans and a brother, Levan Powell.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, will follow at Cob Cemetery, Macks Lake Road, Johnsonville, SC.
