LAKE CITY: Mrs. Sara Frances Shine Merritt, 90, wife of the late Mims Emrod Merritt, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Merritt was born November 1, 1919 in Florence County a daughter of the late Dr. James Robert and Alberta Flowers Shine. She graduated from Johnsonville High School and the St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing in Charleston, SC. Mrs. Merritt was an office nurse for Drs. Dexter M. Evans Sr. and Jr. She was also instrumental in helping Dr. Albert D. Mims establish his first practice in Lake City. She was a member of Lake City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: Daughter, Pam M. Coker and her husband Dan of Lake City; Son, Randy Merritt of Cordova, SC; three granddaughters, Muffy M. Fulmer and her husband Curtis of Prosperity, SC, Wendy Coker of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jill C. Hunt and her husband Patrick of Lake City; three grandsons, Ty Merritt and his wife Rosemeri of Cordova, SC, Bubba Merritt of Rockingham, NC, and Ryan Merritt of Clemson University; seven great granddaughters, Emma Louise Hunt and Maggie Hunt of Lake City, Merritt Fulmer of Prosperity, SC, Alexandra Merritt, Abigail Merritt, Savana Burks and Alivia Burks of Prosperity, SC., daughter-in-law, Lou Nell Merritt of Moncks Corner, SC. and a special friend Grace Singletary.

Mrs. Merritt was predeceased by sons, Roddy Merritt and Bob Merritt; sisters, Margaret Henley, Virginia Comer, Inez Albers and Marie Andrews; brother James Albert Shine; daughter-in-law, Nan Merritt.

Graveside service will be at 9:00 AM, Friday, July 23, 2010 in Lake City Cemetery directed by Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton, SC.

Family will receive friends at the home, 110 Katelyn Drive, Lake City, SC.
