LAKE CITY: Mr. Myers C. Floyd, 77, husband of Grace Matthews Floyd, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Floyd was born September 25, 1932 in Olanta, SC, a son of the late Henry Floyd and Bertha Hewitt Floyd. He was the retired owner of Floyd Construction & Real Estate Company, charter member of Prosser’s Cafe Breakfast Club and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Floyd was a member of Lee’s Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Senior Adult Bible Class. He was a great husband, father and grandfather, who always gave unconditional love and support to his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Surviving besides his wife, Grace M. Floyd of Lake City; are three daughters, Sandy F. Merritt of Columbia, Janet Floyd-Colburn of Lake City, and Melanie Floyd-Foley, and her husband, John P. Foley, Jr., of Wilmington, MA; six grandchildren, Ty Merritt of Orangeburg, Matthew Colburn, Christopher Colburn and Mary Grace Colburn, all of Lake City, Trevor Foley and Luke Foley, of Wilmington, MA; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra Merritt and Abby Merritt of Orangeburg; two brothers, Edward Floyd of Reidsville, NC, and Mendle Floyd of Olanta; and three sisters, Gertrude Smith of York, PA, Bessie Floyd Miles of Goldsboro, NC, Mamie Lou Floyd of Lake City; and a number of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
Mr. Floyd was predeceased by a son, Myers Carlisle Floyd, Jr.; three sisters, Myrtle Horn, Mildred Allen and Helen Wilson and a brother, Gordon Floyd.
Funeral service will be at 4:00 P.M., Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Lee’s Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family from 6:00—8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 30th, 2009, at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 East Highway 378 ByPass, Scranton, SC, and at other times in the home: 312 Smith Street, Lake City, SC.
