Lake City: Mr. Kenneth D. Anderson, 76, a retired tobacconist and husband of Patricia M. Anderson, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence, after an illness.

Mr. Anderson was born October 7, 1933, in Lynchburg, Virginia, the only son of the late Dewey W. Anderson and Margaret Moore Anderson. He graduated from Volens High School, Lynchburg, Virginia, where he lettered in basketball and baseball. He attended Lynchburg College where he was a catcher on the baseball team and played professional baseball for the Phillies until his career ended with a knee injury. After this, he trained in Bristol, England, to be a Tobacco Purchasing Supervisor. He was appointed a Kentucky Colonel on the Burley Tobacco Market. Mr. Anderson purchased tobacco in the United States and abroad and was well known for his judgment of tobacco. He retired from Imperial Tobacco Company and Dimon International Tobacco Company. For several years, he was affiliated with Star-New Home Tobacco Warehouse of Lake City, South Carolina, and Vaughan Tobacco Company of Lexington, Kentucky. Mr. Anderson was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving are: His wife of twenty-five years, Patricia Matthews Anderson of Lake City; step-daughter, Lisa Wheeler Thomas and step-granddaughter, Tessa Ann Thomas of North Myrtle Beach; step-daughter-in-law, Terri Eaddy Wheeler and step-grandson, Blair J. Wheeler of Myrtle Beach. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Barney J. Wheeler, Esquire.

Funeral services will be private. Memorials may be made to New Zion Baptist Church, 1230 McAllister Mill Road, Lake City, South Carolina 29560.
