SCRANTON: Mrs. Frances “Fifi” Dennis Ussery, 75, wife of the late Charles W. “Chuck” Ussery died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence, after an illness.

Mrs. Ussery was born May 23. 1934, in Florence County a daughter of the late Cox Nathaniel Dennis, Sr. and Georgia Lola Bell Moore Dennis. She retired after 29 years of service as Scranton Postmaster and was a member of Scranton United Methodist Church. Mrs. Ussery was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 3412 and former member of the Lake City Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 110.

Surviving are her sister, Polly D. Miller of Scranton; step-son, James A. Ussery and his wife, Tammey of Alabama; three step grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen P. Dennis of Scranton; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Dennis Haselden and Ruth Dennis Evans and a brother, Carroll N. Dennis, Jr.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, December 20, 2009, at the Carolina Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the High Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Saturday evening at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 E. Highway 378 ByPass, Scranton, SC, and at other times at the home: 1906 S. Church Street, Scranton, SC.

Memorials may be made to Agape Hospice of the Grand Strand, 3503 W. Turbeville Highway, Lake City, SC 29560; or, Scranton United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 158, Scranton, SC 29591.
