CADES: Mr. Erskine Carlisle Griggs, 77, husband of Jo Ann Phillips Griggs, died Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence, after an illness.

Mr. Griggs was born May 14, 1932, in Darlington County, a son of the late Charlie Clark Griggs and Annie May Griffith Griggs. He was a graduate of St. Johns High School of Darlington, attended Spartanburg Methodist Junior College and was very active with the Darlington Jaycees. He retired after 43 years as operations manager with Pee Dee Electric Co-op. and was a member of Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Griggs served twelve years in the Darlington Unit, 201st Medical Brigade, 51st Infantry Division of the South Carolina National Guard and was first married to the late Betty Jane Howle Griggs. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and animals.

Surviving include his wife Jo Ann Phillips Griggs of Cades; children, Erskine Carlisle Griggs, Jr. of Darlington, Teresa Skipper and her husband, Brent of Charlotte, NC, Alexies Gibbs and her husband, Freddie of Darlington, Gwen C. Parker of Lake City, Linda Mitchell and her husband, Edward, of Quinby, Judi Brown and her husband, Freddie of Myrtle Beach, Joan Campbell of Florence, David T. Cole and his wife, Christina of Wilmington, NC; sisters, Mary Louise Aftanas and her husband, Joseph and Annie May Moore and her husband, Pete, all of Darlington; brother, Charlie Clark Griggs of Hartsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Griggs, Catherine Griggs, Trey Gibbs, Logan Carlyle Gibbs, Shane Satterfield, Jennifer Altman and her husband, Gregg, Billy Satterfield, Stacey Parker, Billy Seegar, Betsy Sellers, Stephanie McFadden, Tiffanie Guajardo, Steven Campbell, Tommy Cole and Devan Cole; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter, Mary Satterfield; grandson, Mart Parker; and sisters, Dottie Jo Walters and Rosalind Atkinson.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 16, 2009, at Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 E. Highway 378 ByPass, Scranton, SC.
